In general, anytime an injury has occurred it is advisable to consult an attorney to determine if a claim should be filed.

For example, the owner or keeper of a dog is most often strictly liable for any injuries caused by the dog.

Injuries caused by an assault may result in criminal prosecution. However, the victim may also have a civil remedy and may be able to make a monetary claim.

Under the Connecticut Dram Shop law a business establishment that serves alcohol to a person who is already intoxicated may be responsible for damage to person or property caused by such intoxication.

A physical injury is not always necessary in order to make a claim. Certain injuries to one’s reputation may give rise to a claim. Connecticut law also allows a claim to be made for intentional or negligent infliction of emotional distress.
